Tribute to APJ Abdul Kalam

Dear Friends,

With utmost grief i am sharing this post on our great leader Dr APJ Abdul Kalam -A man who taught many of us to Dream passed away y'day.

Dr Kalam's address to students in our college in 2002 made a drastic change in me. He built the confidence and courage in the minds of youth in India.

A small tribute from me for my great hero who made me to think and dream about me.

A quilled tribute to Dr Abdul kalam. The word which he left for us and bid bye to this nation.

Some of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam's Inspiring quotes are below

  1. “You have to dream before your dreams can come true.”
  2. “Don’t take rest after your first victory because if you fail in second, more lips are waiting to say that your first victory was just luck.”
  3.  “All Birds find shelter during a rain. But Eagle avoids rain by flying above the Clouds. Problems are common, but attitude makes the difference.”
  4. “Man needs difficulties in life because they are necessary to enjoy the success.”
  5.  “One of the very important characteristics of a student is to question. Let the students ask questions.”
  6. “It is very easy to defeat someone, but it is very hard to win someone.”
  7.  “Look at the sky. We are not alone. The whole universe is friendly to us and conspires only to give the best to those who dream and work.”
  8.  “Be more dedicated to making solid achievements than in running after swift but synthetic happiness.”
  9.  “Thinking should become your capital asset, no matter whatever ups and downs you come across in your life.”
  10. “Without your involvement you can’t succeed. With your involvement you can’t fail.
The words of Dr Abdul Kalam from one of his recent lecture which i read again and again are below

"To be remembered for, you have to be unique, Unique You"

"The challenge, my young friends, is that you have to fight the hardest battle, which any human being can ever imagine to fight; and never stop fighting until you arrive at your destined place, that is, a UNIQUE YOU! Friends what will be your tools to fight this battle, what are they: have a great aim in life, continuously acquire the knowledge, work hard and persevere to realize the great achievement."

Thanks Sir for being inspirational to many of us. A great Salute to you from all our hearts.

#RIP Dr APJ Abdul Kalam

My Grandfather

Dear Friends,

My DT post for Unstampabelles - the Last ten hours left to participate.

This month theme is Who is Your Hero/Heroine?

Create a mixed media item to celebrate your hero

The twist is to journal about it in your blog

My Interpretation to the theme is here.Distressed the background to get the Flag colours and Used Tim Holtz Sun Shine stencil over it. In remembering my grandfather used Quilled Footprints. Hand written sentiment and arranged two butterflies to carry it and shells to give beach effect.

My Hero is my Grand father. Whom i admire most in my life.

This post is a tribute to my Grand Father. You left footprints on my heart Grandpa - Missing you a lot

He used to read Mahatma Gandhiji's autobiography for me daily.

Mahatma Gandhi - Father of India -  I have grown up by hearing his autobiography.

The Man who stood for ahimsa (Peace & non- violence).  Some Quotes of him are below

There is no such thing as "Gandhism", and I do not want to leave any sect after me. I do not claim to have originated any new principle or doctrine. I have simply tried in my own way to apply the eternal truths to our daily life and problems...The opinions I have formed and the conclusions I have arrived at are not final. I may change them tomorrow. I have nothing new to teach the world. Truth and nonviolence are as old as the hills

"I know the path. It is straight and narrow. It is like the edge of a sword. I rejoice to walk on it. I weep when I slip. God's word is: 'He who strives never perishes.' I have implicit faith in that promise. Though, therefore, from my weakness I fail a thousand times, I will not lose faith, but hope that I shall see the Light when the flesh has been brought under perfect subjection, as some day it must. "

Now to our challenge at Unstampabelles and the gift offered by Susan Hogan

DIY - Paper Quilling earring tutorial

Dear Friends,

This month it is anything goes at Create something Catchy Challenges. Hence no boundaries and no limitations. My inspiration is on tutorial to make quilled earring.

Quilled Earrings are quick and easy to make. To make them waterproof takes a lot of time. But you can create and cherish your friends by creating an earring for them. A few quilling strips and some earring findings are all you need to make these type of quilled earring designs.

It is a very simple tutorial and does not require a quilling tool.

Supplies you would need

1. Quilling strips - 3mm or 5mm - 10 Nos
2. A sketch pen or OHP marker
3. Glue.
4. Basic jewelry making supplies - O rings and fish hooks
5. Beads, mirror to embelish(optional)

Step 1:

Take a single strip and roll over the sketch pen and glue it as shown below

Step 2:

Pinch at one point in the coil to make a tear drop pattern. Repeat step 1 and make 10 Nos of such tear drops.

Step 3:

Attach each tear drops together to form a flower pattern as shown below.
Step 4:

Connect the fish hooks to flower pattern with O rings. Your quilled earring is ready.

Embellish the flower as you like - Beads , mirror, tight coil and coat it with glue and varnish.

Isn't easy to do. You can create any number of quilling earring designs by this method using basic quilling shapes
Would be happy to see your work at CSCC#13.

Happy crafting............................  :)

Quilled earring

Hi friends,

Just thought of sharing some the paper quilled earrings which i made for an expo months back

Paper Quilling - the art of arranging, curling and bending small strips of paper to create beautiful and detailed artwork. It is very therapeutic. People who wish to dissolve in peace - try Paper Quilling earrings

Many colours combos were made in the above designs, But couldn't take photographs of the same. Would be happy if my works inspires you to create something in quilling
